The book covers all aspects of environmental engineering: 1) Environmetal chemistry and biology discusses pathogens and indicator organisms, tests for the coliform group of organisms, drinking water standards, equivalents and equivalent weights, microbial thermodynamics, solubility product constants, biological combustion, chemistry of the anaerobic process, and eutrophication chemistry. 2) Environmetal hydrology discusses surface water hydrology, reservoirs, groundwater hydrology, and groundwater contamination. 3) Environmetal hydraulics and pneumatics discusses water supply and distribution, collection and transmission of water, collection of wastewater, pumping stations, and pneumatic systems. 4) Environmetal quality modeling includes models for surface water quality, air quality, and groundwater quality. 5) Water treatment includes settling, filtration, coagulation and focculation, water softening, and disinfection. 6) Wasterwater treatment discusses principles of aeration and sludge treatment and disposal. 7) Pollution from combustion and atmospheric pollution discusses aucomotive emission control, photochemical smog, the NO2 photolytic cycle, acid rain, tropospheric ozone destruction due to CFCs, and greehouse effects. 8) Solid waste management discusses site selection, leachate control, gas control, operation plan, and permit application. 9) Air pollution control discusses gaseous controls - absorption in towers, adsorption to activated carbon, and incineration, particulate controls - cyclones, gravitational settling, electrostatic precipitators, scrubbers, and bagfilters. Indoor air pollution is also discussed10) Hazardous waste management and risk assessment include RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) wastes, radioactive wastes, the hazardous waste transportation and manifest, methods of final disposal of nuclear wastes, and risk assessment. 11) Noise pollution and control discusses methods of noise measurement, noise criteria, and control. Noise is also discussed in three types of settings: industrial, community, and airport. Indoor and outdoor noise propagation is discussed
